AUTUMN SKY all began with a mother and two of her daughters deciding it was actually a lot of fun to sing together. With her daughters inheriting their mother's love of music and of singing; they found it was amazing to hear the wonderful blend they could create together because of the similarity of their voices. This blog post focuses on the "original" Autumn Sky and how it all came about - and it is through Brandi's perspective.
"After singing together for various events while I was in High School; Mom, Tiff and I decided to make it more official. I still tease that our name "Autumn Sky", was mostly my idea. We sang for a variety of venues and each one was enjoyable. After singing for the Ogden Christmas Tree Festival after High School, a few friends told me how amazing we sounded and that they had no idea I could sing so well. I was truly surprised and thought: we really have something here!
Because we're family, our voices have similarities that have allowed us to blend very well, creating a smooth and easy sound. I believe in our blood runs a love of the arts that when combined with our bond created a special spirit when we sang. I don't know how often others felt it, but I certainly did. We were never wildly successful. The arts world is a funny one. You never know if what you have to offer is enough or popular. But I think we enjoyed the experience despite our various challenges of distance, time and money.
After the birth of my daughter, my mental and physical health took a plunge. I was soon diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis and began a very long journey to return my body to better health. Hashimotos took a toll on many things, including my energy and my voice. I am not the same person I was before. I have lost many parts of myself but I have also gained many more.
I am reminded daily that life is a great test. Things rarely go as we plan and that is usually good! I am a better person because of my experiences. There are choices every day, no matter our circumstances. We can choose to be better, or we can choose to be bitter.
There are too many experiences, too many performances to go into the details of all I experienced. The point of it all is that I learned from each one, and I think I was able to use my talents for good. I was able to coax my courage and confidence despite my shyness and anxiety. The greatest moments were singing and feeling the spirit permeate the room and the moments when I couldn't sing because I was overcome. I am so grateful for the spirit welcoming our meager offerings and increasing them ten fold."
Tiffany and I were very sad to lose Brandi from the group, but are grateful for the time we had together AS "Autumn Sky". We still sing together for special events and are still able to enjoy creating beautiful music together once in awhile. We are grateful for that - and grateful for what Brandi's talent brought to Autumn Sky and what we learned together.
